English Bank Holiday. London, November 3.—A Eoyal Proclamation appoints Tuesday, December 27th, as a Bank Holiday, thus adding the holiday lost through Christmas Day falling on Sunday.
Big Amalgamation. London, November 3.—The firms of Yickers, Ltd., and Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whit worth and Co., after several months of negotiations, have signed a provisional agreement to amalgamate the naval-shipbuilding and heavy armament sections of their businesses.
New Designs for- Coins. London, November 3.—A Eoyal Proclamation determines new designs for the crown, half-crown, florin, and shilling, and minor changes in the sixpence and threepence. The reverse of the latter two coins will bear acorns interleaved with oak branches.
Child Endowment Act. Sydney, November 4. —The State Cabinet has decided not to collect any more taxation under the Child Endowment Act from October 31st to the end of the financial year. This means a reduction of taxation to the extent of about £2,000,000 on industry.
Attempted Assassination. Berlin, November 3.—lt is reported from Prague that an unknown man fired at a motor-car in the belief that it contained the Czecho-Slovak Defence Minister, M. Udrsal, but the sole occupant wa6 his wife, who was uninjured. Tho assailant escaped. German Royal Romance.
Berlin, November 3.—The latest sensation in connexion with the coming marriage of the ex-Kaiser's sister is the Ecclesiastical Presbytery of the Diocese of Bonn refusing to permit the ceremony in the' Church on the ground that the marriage between persons of such differing ages is immoral. Princess Victoria announces that the marriage will take place privately.
