Personal. Sumner is to suffer a great loss in the departure from the district of Dr. and Mrs Fife-Slater. During their residence in the borough they have made hosts of friends. Especially by the Tennis Club will Dr. Slater be missed. He was a prime mover in the in'auguration of the electrically lighted tennis court at the Scarborough end. the first of its kind in,Christchurch.' Indifferent health has caused him to give up his practice and his place will be taken by Dr. Bakewell, who is already known br ,, a m aprity of Sumner people. Mrs W. Day and Mr W. A. T) ;IV are staying in Sumner.
Inter-Borough Contests. At the meeting of the Executive Committees of the Sumner and New Brighton, Sports Associations, a programme of events for tho annual contests was arranged. It is pleasing to note the inclusion of an Association football match, a B good teams from both boroughs can be obtained. The boundaries, to apply strictly to all events excepting the surf fixtures, were fixed a« follows: New Brighton to Breeze's road, Sumner to Mt. Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant Tram Stop. Mt. Pleasant residents are indebted to the Tramway Board for the improvements carried out to the tram stop. Previously passengers were forced to wait on the side of the road, and on the approach of a tram to walk across tho main road, often in tho face of a speeding motor-car. Now, however, tho V-shaped piece of land at the junction, of the tramway embankment and the mam road has been filled in, a fence placed round it, and a seat erected, while later on it is proposed to build a shelter. Trams to pick up passengers now stop on the single line, not on the loop as before.
