ELLESMERE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. , The first meeting of the General Committee of the Ellßßmere A. and P. Association since the ■ show was presided over by Mr B. T. McMillan (president). There were also present: Messrs J. Boag, A. K. Withell, A. J. Inwood, A, McLaughlin, I. McGill, H. 0. Gardiner, H. G. Chamberlain, J. C. Chamberlain, W. J. Lemon, W. Johnston, John Brooks, and J. T. Parkin. Messrs J. Bryant, A. Kattray, Ballin Bros., and R. Barnett were elected members of the Association. It was mentioned that the shelter provided for Clydesdale horses was much appreciated, but the ground along part of the fence required filling up to prevent cold winds from getting under.
The president said two exhibitors had tied for the Kiwi Cup, for most points in the milking classes. On the motion of Messrs Inwood and Boag, it was decided that each should hold the cup for six months, and that both should have their names inscribed upon it.
It was pointed out by the president that there were no classes in the schedule for young thoroughbreds. He thought there should be a class for yearlings. Tho matter was referred to tho Light Horse Committee for consideration. Another matter that the Light Horse Committee is to consider-is a suggestion that the class for farmer's spring eart should be altered to road "farmer's spring trap." The committee is also to consider a proposal that separate stewards should be appointed for competitions in the light horse section. A recommendation which the Sheep Committee is to consider is that the stewards in the short wool classes should be divided into two sections.
Mr Boag moved a recommondation that the next annual meeting of the Association should be held iu the afternoon instead of the evening.
Some discussion also took place in regard to the issue of complimentary tickots. The subject is to be furthor considered at s future meeting. The president spoke in support of • the legislation introduced relating to the Arbitration Court, and suggested that the Association should back up the proposal to exclude all farming pursuits from awards of the Court. He moved: "That, whilo regretting that the Government has not seen fit to repeal the Arbitration Act, this committee strongly supports the Government's proposal to exempt the farming industry from awards of the Arbitration Court.
Mr Boag strongly supported ttie resolution, which was carried.
It was decided to convey the viows of the committee to the Prime Minister, Minister for Labour, and the member for the district (Mr D. Jones) by telegram. After the formal business had been dealt with . the president expressed his pleasure that the cup he had recently given for the most points in the Clydesdale section had been won by Mr J. Boag. The conditions laid down were that the cup had to be won five times, not necessarily in succession, before becoming the property of any exhibitor. Mr Boag had been a consistent exhibitor of Clydesdales, a strong supporter of the Association for many years, and his late father had been one of the foundation members of the Association, and also a very keen exhibitor for a long period of years. He warmly congratulated Mr Boag on his win, and wished him many more successes.
Mr Boag accepted the cup from the president on behalf of the Association, and said he was very proud of being the first winner of such a handsome trophy.
