The new Mental Hospital being erected at Templeton by Mr Charles Calvert will probably be finished about the end of the year. Messrs C. E. Otley, Ltd., who have been operating a dry-kiln for some years past, are now making arrangements for the installation of an internal fan progressive kiln, which will be of far greater capacity than the one which they have had in operation. It is interesting to noto that the kiln proposed to be installed is the development of. Mr H. D. Tiemann, who, it will bo remembered, visited the Dominion in May, 1922, aiid gave somo very interesting lectures to the sawmillers at the different centres. The new kiln ! is to be installed by Mr Hannncrsloy, of Messrs Thos. Robinson and Son (N.Z.), Ltd.. of Christchurch. "When tho secretary was paying a visit to one of the'sawmilling centres last year, ho had occasion to spend ten minutes or so, waiting for an appointment, in the store or shop of a sawmiller who also conducted a small builders' hardware business in conjunction with his timber yard; and as conversation with the proprietor on the previous evening turned upon the subject of loyalty to New Zealand products first, and British preference second, he occupied the idle ten minutes browsing among the stock in the store—and the' following is a list of some of the articles that were stocked there : —Emery wheels from Worcester, Mass. U.S.A.; axes from Philadelphia, U.S.A.; cupboard locks from Newhaven. Connecticut. U.S.A.; sash-locks from Newhaven, Connecticut, U.S.A.; shoe nails from New Brighton, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.; cross-cut saws from U.S.A.; packing from New York; finishing nails from Teuton, Mass, U.S A.: graphite from New York; three-ply from U.S.A.; three-ply from Russia; oil from Vacuum Co., U.S.A.; sawset from Philadelphia, U.S.A.; sash fasteners from Pennsylvania, U.S.A. It is interesting now to know that the last-named are being made most successfully in New Zealand.—"lndustrial Bulletin."
