WATER SUPPLY BOARD.
WAIMAKARIRI-ASHLEY. At the monthly'meeting of the Waimaka-riri-Ashloy Water Supply Board there were present Messrs Jas. Brown (chairman), Geo. Wayland, and John Waller, apologios for. absence being received from Messrs Sheat and Luers.
The secretary reported that a considerable amount of work has been done, whilst the water had been oft' for race cleaning. The tunnel at the headworks had been cleared of, 'shingle and silt, and the head race cleaned. Unfortunately the recent floods in the river had washed up-a bank of shingle on the outside of intake gates, and was holding up the usual good supply of water. It was hoped to have the shingle cleared-away within the next day or two. An old flume bad been taken out* and replaced by a concrete syphon on Mr W." Reed's propesty. A fifteen feet culvert had been put over the race at the intake to Mr F. Gartery's property on Chapman's run. A portion of the Oust township race had been piped in places where tho water .was leaking through the bank, a new flume had been constructed in the race on Mr E. K. Banfield's property (Rangiora). The main race had ''been cleaned through Messrs Tritt's and A. Graham' 6, and above the Domain road and Scanlen's gates in tho Oxford district. A stretch had also been cleaned along Wolff's road at Horrelville. The Oust river auxiliary race had been cleaned from the river out: to the Oxford road, which would greatly increaso the supply of water during the summer months. A letter' was received from the Kyre County Council requesting tho Board to constnict a culvert in the water course which' carries the race on Chapman's boundary road. It was decided that Messrs Sheat and Wayland arrange to meet the '. two representatives for that part of the county to come to some decision as to what was required. The Hon. Mr Buddo, M.P., -wrote advising the Board that the sum of i'3oo had been placed on tho Public Works estimates for river protective work. Mrs A. M. Winter wrote requesting'.that a. flume, on the property shonld.be renewed. The secretary was instructed to have tho work attended to. It was decided to make application to Mr C. Xankivell for permission to construct a "run away" in the race to allow water to be turned down a drain in his paddock.
The secretary reported that the two protective groynes had been completed at the headworks. It was resolved to apply to the Public Works Department for the final payment of the subsidy due.
