DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED.

', A dangerous creek bridge 1 , situated on the main Blenheim-Nelson highway•■: near Okaramio, was" the scene of a nasty smash, yesterday afterrioou when a motor-lorry, owned and driven by William Homan, of Nelson, collided with the bridge'and left the road. Homan was. proceeding from Blenheim to Nelson. He, struck "the right hand side of.the bridge and swerved to the other side and then smashed into the far side railings. The waggon turned sharply off the road and nose-; .dived down, an eight->feet deep bank, finally coming to a standstill on level ground. ■■'-.''

During the collision a. piece of timber entered the front cab and struck Homan' on the chest, causing serious injury to his chest and fracturing some .of his ribs. .A passenger named S. Ball, ,iun., of. Canyastown, had a narrow escape as a piece .of timber tore the back' of the cab behind where he was sitting;.' After being, attended medically in Havelock,"Homan was removed to Wairau Hospital.
