CHRISTCHURCH OPERATIC SOCIETY. x I .The Concert' Tarty of the Christchureh -Amateur Operatic Society, has for the last .few weeks been working hard at rehearsals fur the performance' of their- musical potpourri, in four acts,-to be presented in the Caledonian Hall to-night. The programme is sparkling throughout with brilliant ensemble numbers, clever comedy, dainty dances, and ■the dressing- is magnificent. A full •'operatic orchestra,- under the direction of- Miss Claris nhaw, is associated with the pot-pourri, and the overture to-be performed will be "Light Cavalry" (Suppe). The pot-pourri then opens with a- brilliant opening chorus bv the entire company; the vocalist will be "Miss -Mna Donaldson, whose number's will in,"T h j? Lasfc Cal1 " (Sanderson) and Witts of :the Gods" (Rosse). .Miss Donaldsons work in previous'operas' staged by the Operatic Society will still be remenibered. Mr-Fred- Hale is the soloist in-several concerted numbers. The iteirj "For Mv Sweetheart," assisted by "The Sweethearts " and "Dancing Time," supported by 'The Dancing Five," and "Any Girl From-Anv-where, with ';Tho Girls," will be well worth seeing. The ".Winter Time" number, with Constance Henderson and Fred Hale, backed up with ; "The Pelting Eight," ..adds a.ploa.sant variety: . Miss Madge Wilson, u popular Christchurcli artiste, is associated with Wyn •C.owlishaw in their famous "Quarrelling Duet," and Miss Wilson also appears in several other numbers. "Love's Cigarette," performed by"Claris Shaw, is an'outstanding item, and "Throe Little Maids," by Const;) nco Henderson and Kciie and Edna Pedder and ''There's' a ' Quaker Down in Quaker Town," by-Pesky Hollander, demonstrate the versatility of .these- artists. -The- good comedy work of the programme is in the hands of Messrs Alan Brown, Wyn' Cowiishaw, and J. Xevil Cohen, who make full use of their ■many opportunities. Mr Cohen will also present his act of legerdemain. "The Ten Bhop" scene in the socond act gives- the whole company, a very splendid opportunity, and the dancing'is a feature'of the programme.- The two. soloists in" this department lire- Misses Dallas Henley, who'will present her "Dance Acrobatic," and Phylis Williams, who will' dance "Dance Arlistique." Two sketches, "How-Ike Von the Var" and "The Courting of Betty Eglington." will be given by Mr If. Instone, and "Tho Clerk's Chorus''' by "The Boys" and "Pretty Maiden" by the company's ocletle rnako a splendid variety to a brilliant programme. The orchestra of twelve instrumentalists is rendering a special mnsiivi 1 score,-and the entr'acto of "Conce.rt Polka," with.Mr-Ft-ed Fox-.as trumpet soloist, Mill be a feature of the performance. • The proceeds are to assist the R.H.A. funds.
