BAND OF HOPE COMPETITIONS.
The Canterbury Band of Hope Union's competitions were continued in the Choral Hall last evening before an enthusiastic audience. The judges were: Pianoforte, Miss B. Pollard; vocal, Mrs Gallop; elocution, Mr J.- R. Lester; scarf drill, etc., Miss A. J. Menzies. The results are as follow:— Pianoforte .Solo, Class A. Union selection, "Dance des Fees" (Stepan Esipoff)— Kathleen Reed (Knox), 85 per cent., 1; Leslie Haldane (Spreydon Baptist), 84 per cent., 2; Millicent Armour (Knox), 83 per cent., 3.
Ruby Brown (Sydenham United), Lawry_ Walsh (Philipson 1.0. K.), Elsie Johns (Woolston United), and Jean Aitken (Philipson 1.0.E..) also competed. Vocal Solo, Class D, Ladies—Hiss Alice Chapman (St. Paul's), 81 per cent., 1. Miss Joyce Kixon (St. Paul's) also competed. Recitation, Class A, Section I. Boys. Union selection, "If I Were You."—Maurice Judkins (Philipson 1.0. R.), 67 per cent., 1. Billie Hughes (Durham street South), Arthur Schenkel (Philipson 1.0. R.), : and "Baby" .Hughes (Durham street South) also competed. Scarf Drill—Durham street South, 67 per cent., 1 St. Paul's Presbyterian also competed.' Soprano or Contralto Solo. Open°class— Miss Kathleen Chappie (St. Paul's), S3 per cent., 1; Miss Freda Judkins (Philipson 1.0. R.), 79 per cent., 2. Misses Joan Thomson (Edgewaro), Joyce Nixon (St. Paul's), and Linda Mills (New Brighton United) also competed. Dialogue, Section ll—Knox, "The March of Temperance." 79 per cent., 1. ■■ 'Humorous Character Sketch, Section I.— Joan Hughes (Durham street S.), 81 per cent., 1; Clivo McNeil (Durham street S.), 75 per" cent., 2; Rona Hill (Edgeware), 71 per cent., 3 Yvonne H. Dodge (Durham street- South), Edna Henderson (Philipson 1.0. R.), Noelino Pedler (St. Paul's), and Betty Wanty (Rugby street) also competed. Recitation, Class 0. Boys. Union selection, "Dare To Say No." —Dawson Douglas (St. Paul's), 579 per cent., 1. Alistaire Thomson (Knox) and Charlie Ware (Rugby street) also competed.
The competitions will bo continued in the Choral Hall this evening, when the following sections will no judged:—Tableau (Knox), recitation, Class A. Section 11., boys; pianoforte solo, Class B; Maypole Dance; recitation, Class. B. girls; song in character, Section II.; dialogue, Section I.; action son?, Section II.; humorous recitation, Section 1., girls.
