Markets were rather unexpectedly active yesterday, and a good volume of business waa transacted. The gradual firming of prices and the increased demand, especially in the gilt-edged section, ifl responsible for Bales at appreciably advanced prices During October there were maried indication of increasing confidence by the investing public. Many stocks that liad received v er 7 little attention in the preceding three months, and in consequence were at a low figure, have again become prominent, and good turnovers have taken place.
