RETRENCHMENT POLICY. (bi cable— pbsss association—copyright.) (AUSTRALIAN AND K. 1.. CAILB ASSOCIATION.) ADELAIDE, November 1. As the result of a policy of retrenchment in the South Australian railways, it has been decided that the services of 2000 employees. be dispensed with in the next six weeks. The Premier, Mr P. L. Butler, says that the first to go will be those who have reached the retiring age, but are wtill kept on on acocunt of the nature of their work. It is impossible to provide part-time employment to do away with the dismissals. Mr Butler said it .is not intended to apply retrenchment throughout the Government services, but economy is being practised in that no new appointments will be made. The vacancies caused by retirements through men reaching the age limit will not be filled.
