RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES.

Matters were very busy on the Eiccarton tracks yesterday morning, as practically all the visiting horses were given fast work, and some interesting gallops were witnessed. A light rain fell in the early morning, which, however, (lid not seriously interfere with operations, or affect the going to any extent. The outside of the course proper was again available, with tresj ties placed about 40ft out from the rails.

Agrion was one of the first to work. He strode over a milo in leisurely fashion in 1.50. Lucinda was to have assisted him, but her pilot lost an iron. The Derby candidate is bright and well, and, although he may be a little short of work, lie will have to be reckoned with in the race. Shirley, carrying a good weight, covered five furlongs nicely in 1.4. She accomplished her task with apparent ease, and there is little doubt that she is in first-class order. Limerick, after doing an easy round on the sand, was taken on Jo the course proper and worked brilliantly over five furlongs. It was easily the best over the distance of the morning, the watch registering 1.1 2-5. Tiega, alone, got to the end of nine furlongs in 2.3, the first five furlongs, being run in 1.7 2-5. The brilliant filly Childsplay made the majority of the sprinters look very ordinary when she reeled off four furlongs in 47. Gascony finished slightly in front of Joy King and Kiosk, with Benzora, who carried a good weight, beaten off, at the end of a task over the straight four furlongs. Timing of this gallop was not practicable. Paperchase finished well clear of Centrepiece after running seven furlongs in 1.31. Centrepiece pulled up sound, but ho is carrying surplus condi- , tion, and 13 not likely to be seen at his best at the Meeting. Battle Colours and Nincompoop were associated in a working gallop over seven furlongs, the last half being run' in 53. Kenmore, working well, within himself, reeled off four furlongs in 52 2-5. Full Feather and Chide dashed over half a milo in 49. Silver Coot and Noteworthy occupied 50 1-5 to cover the samo ground, the latter again giving a disappointing dismay.

Money Order ran five furlongs in 1.3, the concluding four furlongs taking 51 2-5. He went particularly fast over the first few furlongs, and as a result was stopping a little as ho crossed the line.

Amor and Luminant finished almost on terms after galloping seven furlongs in 1.32 4-5. The first-named is not usually a good track horse, but his effort yesterday morning was promising, as Luminant has been showing winning form, and the pair were together throughout the journey. Beacon Light arid Battlement were companions in a gallop over a ~mile and a half. They keot together over the first seven furlongs, but from this point Battlement drew awav and beat tho northerner! comfortably In 2.43. All eyes were on Rapier, Star Stranger, Te Monanui, and David Garrick as the quartet lined up at the mile and a quarter peg. They jumped off to a good start, but Star Stranger soon went to the front, To Monanui being in the rear. There was little change for six furlongs, where Rapier and Te Monanui took up the running. Down the straight they came away together and crossed the line almost abreast, with Star Stranger a couple of lengths away, ; David Garrick being beaten off. The sectional times were: 3 furlongs in 40 2-5, five in 1.6, six in 1.19 4-5, the last four in 52 2-5, and the full journey in 2.12. Bennauec, Dorec, and Yoi#a finished in tho order named, after galloping a 1 mile and a quarter in 2;13. Reremoana, looking Veil, was not fully extended to run half a mile in 53 1-5.

Mandane and Avro wero associated in a gallop over seven furlongs,, a task that was accomplished in 1.29 2-5.

| _ As a result of Footfall's poor sliow|ing at Motukarara on Saturday last, he was the centre of attraction as he jumped off to run a' mile and a half. He was joined by Starflight after going half a mile. A solid pace was maintained throughout the journey, which was completed in 2.38, Don Jose and Paper Boy finished well clear of Pair Exchange after galloping six furlongs in 1.18. Piuthair and Clarinda got through a useful performance in completing nine furlongs in- 1.58, the last four in 51 2-5. Piuthair is not as well as her trainer would like, and there is just a chance, that Clarinda will be the stable representative in the Cup. Flicker, Banket, and Te Atiawa dashover half a mile in 51. The firsi-named pair finished ahead of their companion. Great Charter, Martarina, Paleta, and Lady Desmond finished in the order named, after running seven furlongs in 1.29 1-5.

Laughing Prince was responsible for an outstanding performance over seven furlongs, the time recorded being 1.28, He worked alone and finished well. Count Cavour found favour by running a mile and a half in 2.40, assisted by Satrap over the last 10 furlongs. The performance of Satrap was fall of merit as ho was always going well alongside of his stablemate, and finished on terms. _ Fihora- rattled Over sis furlongs brilliantly in 1.15 1-5. She was assisted by a stable companion over the last half mile.

Amorist, Cornstalk, and Cupid's Dart got to the end of six furlongs in 1.18. Pure Gold beat Silver Eulo and Tea Miss at the conclusion of a dash over four furlongs down the straight. _ Booster was going comfortably alongside Peho while running half a mile in 50. Silver Paper easily disposed of Silver Arc in a dash over half a mile, which was run in 49 4-5. Silver Paper could have improved on the time. Countersign and Eotor gave a pleasing display over six furlongs, which they cast behind in 1.16, finishing together. Sagittarius and Chickwheat separately got through strong work on the plough. Chickwheat has freshened up nicely during the last couple of weeks. There was little between Hoylake Master Clarence, and Assurance after galloping a mile in 1.50 2-5. Tenterfleld easily disposed of Te Kawa in a run over seven furlongs, which was covered in 1.35. Greyfinch and Lancer finished on terms after running five furlongs in

Moorland and Sir Boy covered five furlongs nicely in 1.3 3-3. Gladlight and Father O'Flynn could have improved on the time, l.io, it took them to run six furlongs. Thorndale ran the last four of five furlongs in 54 3-5. He was going comfortably all the way. Kate Kelly and Louise got to the end Of half a mile in 51 2-5.

Bascal easily beat JCeisler over six fnrlongs in 1.17. k Tarleton (E. McSeveney), and Aberfeldy (I. Tilson) were given a schooling essay over five flights of hurdles. Both horses jumped safely, but Aberfcldy gave the better showing.
