In the Magistrate's Court, eight years \o£ persistent cruelty of an almost unbelievable character was alleged by .Agnes Mary Thomas against her husband, a half-caste Portuguese, employed as a railway surfaceman. Application was made for separation, maintenance, and custody of the three children. After complainant's evidence had been taken, counsel for defendant re--, turned his brief, "as.he could not stand the thought of being associated with the case." . . - The orders sought were granted.
