An attempt was made to assassinate President Admiral Paul Konduriotis as he was entering his motor-car after opening the Mayors' Congress at the municipal huildings. A man in a crowd fired a bullet, which struck a bystander in tlie face, and then hit the -windscreen. Splinters of glass slightly injured the President. The bullet was found in the floor of the car. The crowd attempted to lynch the President's assailant, who. when arrested, gave his name as Zafirios tloussios, aged thirty. He apparently is a deaf mute. He wrote a statement to the effect that lie was unemployed, and because of this he was determined to avenge himself by killing the head of the State which would not support him.
