CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.

•- ♦ —• DELEGATES VISIT AKAROA. The visiting delegates were taken for an outing by motor-car on Sunday afternoon, the full strength of the party being 63 in 14 cars. The run was through Sumner, Lyttolton, Governor's Bay, Teddington, Tai Tapu, and Halswell, a halt being made for afternoon tea at the Motukarara racecourse. Mr A. H. Maekrell (Invercargill) thanked the Canterbury Chamber for its hospitality to the delegates, and the entertainment provided. He mentioned that the making of a break between the conference days, instead of as formerly after the conference concluded, was a welcome change and gave the delegates a 'greatly appreciated rest. Mr C. P. Agar, president of the local Chamber, replied to Mr Maekrell's speech of thanks. The delegates of the conference .of the Associated Chambers of Commerce were entertained by a motor run to Akaroa on Saturday. The party, about 65 in number, arrived shortly after mid-day, and were met by the Mayov, Mr G. Armstrong, and the Town Clerk, Mr P. G. Riches, who received the visitors on behalf of the residents. Those assembled were the guests of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at lunch at the Bruce Hotel.

Mr A. G. Lunn, on behalf of the delegates, thanked their hosts for the opportunity of being able to see historic Akaroa and the interesting seen-* ery en route. Mr C. P. Agar suitably replied. • The Mayor in a brief speech welcomed the visitors to the town and regretted that Akaroa was not able to form a j Chamber of Commerce. ]

Mr W. Machin thanked the Mayor for Ills welcome to the town.

After luncheon the party was taken for a launch run down to the heads, and on this trip they were tbe guests of the Borough Council: Fourteen cars were required for transport on the trip, these being lent by the following members of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce: Messrs F. E. Jones, J. McGibbon, C. Wedderspoon, P> Graham, S. "Wilkinson, C. P. Agar, W. Machin, G. Wilson, the Christchurch Press Co., Gordon and Gotch, Vacuum Oil Co., Amuri Motors, Dominion Motors, and Andersons, Ltd.
