{TKCii. Ot~S OWS COEBZSPOFDBST.^ LONDON, September 24. General Sir George M. Kirkpatrick, K.C.8., K.C.5.1., late R.E., p.s.c, has been appointed! Colonel-Command-ant, Corps of Royal Engineers, vice Major-General Sir J. R. L. Macdonald, K.C.1.E., C.8., L.L.D. (deceased) (June 2Sth). He was promoted to the rank of General on the loth of June last, and is the first ex-Cadet of the Royal Military College, Canada, to reach the rank of General in the British Army. He accompanied Lord Kitchener on his tourof inspection in connexion with the .New Zealand Defence Forces. Colonel (temporary Colonel-Com-mandant, Hon. Brigadier-General) C. H. Foot, C.8., C.M.G., Staff Corps, Australian Military Forces, p.s.c, late Royal Australian Engineers, has been appointed additional aide-de-camp to the King (Colonial Establishment), vice Colonel (temporary Colonel ou the staff), (Hon. Brigadier-General) W. A. Coxe'n, C.8., C.M.G., D.5.0., Staff Corps, Australian Military Forces, promoted Major-General (February Ist). Major-General Cox en formerly belonged to tho Royal Australian Artillery and is at present serving as Adjutant-General, Australian Military Iforcss. Paymaster-Commander W. J. A. Brown, 0.8. E., has been appointed to join H.M.S Courageous, the new air-craft-carrier completing at Devonport. He will join her from the target-ship Centurion, in which he is being relieved by Paymaster-Commander J. *. Stephens, who has been serving on a North American station in the cruiser Cape Town. Paymaster-Commander Brown was attached to the Defence Department of New Zealand in connexion with naval matters. On September loth, Captain E. It. G R. Evans, C.8.. D-S-C, relinquished the command of the battlecruiser Repulse, and he has been eucSed by Captain T. J. Hallett, ; " wS'Wowers in New Zealand will , be hilrested to hear thai; Mom. Lester _ (Christchurch) has been granted a Short service Commission in the -Royal A.u Force, and will be stationed at No. » Flying Training Station. Sealand, Cheshire, from September 30th. Mr Harry B. Vogel has lately written another novel which has been published by Messrs Stanley Paul. It is called "Gentleman Garnet—Bushranger." and is described as a stirring yarn of early days in Van Diemens Land. Mr M. H. McKellar (late of OamaruJ U on long leave> from . the Federated Malay States, and expects to he in England until November 25th. has booked his passage for New Zealand i by the Ruahine on that date, and will f srjend tba remainder of his leave in j the Dominion.
