GIRLS' SPORTS.
A SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL. The Christchurch girls' sports held at tt.j Addingtou Trotting Ground on Saturday afternoon attracted somo huudreds ot spectators, in addition to tlio 250 girl competitors. This is the second year of. tho tourney, and tho sueress of .Saturday's sports augurs woll for tho future. The competition was on a teams' basis, there being 88 learns, each of si\ competitors, loprcsonuug City lirms, various Uiblo Classes, und Girl , tiuides. Tho meeting was held under tho ) auspices of the Canterbury Centre of the : Now Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, and officials of the Centre assisted in the management of the sports. A grand inarch i was held, tho teams lining up in front of . tho grandstand, whore the competitors were j addressed by tho Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer). ; Mrs Archer (Mayoress) was also present. Two silver challenge cups we.ro prosonted by the Kotary Club and by City lirms. Miss Ruth Gould was chairman of tho committee, and Miss .Freda Pym the secretary.
