SWIMMING.

CHRISTCHUKCH CLUB. Only a few swimmers turned out to take part in the opening of tho Cliristchurch Amateur Swimming Club's season on Saturday, although tho attendance of tho public was fairly large. Mr T. H. Harker declared the seasou open, remarking that it was tho club's fortyeighth seasou. The club had every prospect of 11 successful year. A votu of thanks was carried to Mr T. K. NORTH BEACH SURF CLUB,

A meeting of tho North Beach Surf and Life-Saving Club was held in tho Surf Pavilion, when thero were present—Messrs A. Dalton, club captain (in the chair), J. Breword, W. Smith, F. Alabaster, H. Collings, A. Brand, D. Wilson, T. Barker, W. Brough, P. Hill, A. Harvey, F. J. L. Scott, and R. Dawson.

(Mi the motion of Mr Scott it was decided to instruct the club's delegates to the Surf Association to advocate that tho Council's ttranfc to tha Surf Clubs bo increased, as the club considered that 11 paid beach patrol could not efficiently guard the beach, but, given n-.oro eqninment, the surf clubs could faal-.o tho beaches safer for bathers.

The -iollov.-ing sub-committees wore ap-pointed:-—Works committee, Messrs P. Hill, 'W. Brough, K. Dawson, and A. Brand; gear committee, the captain and vice-captain: social committee. Messrs A. Harvey, A. Brand, and Tim Barker.

TAYLOR'S MISTAKE CLUB.

'fho annual -.Meeting of the Taylor's Mistake Surf and Life-savins Club was held during the. week-end. Mr F. I>. Keetere:! presided over a good <vttcnd:inca. Tim financial statement showed the club to be in a Bound position. Tho annual report stated that the club had had a very successful season. Tho membership, however, d:d not show any substantial increase. It was a great credit to the club still to hold the enviable record o; not having had a drowning fatality on the baach portion -under tho direct control of tho club. The Cup competition held last season had been won by the club. The committee regretted the_ loss the club had sustained in the death of the late Mr Len Partridge, and desired to place on record its deep appreciation of the many sterling efforts made by the late member lor the benefit of the club.
