WARATAHS BEATEN.
OXFORD PUTS UP GOOD FIGHT. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (ACSTBALUH AJTO K.Z. AMD SUN CABLE.) LONDON, October 27. The New South Wales Rugby football team had its first defeat of the tour today, being beaten'by Oxford University by.three points to nil. New South Wales ran a risk by including only four members of the team which drew with London. On the whole the Waratahs were disappointing, particularly their backs, who, though handling the ball very often, failed to make much ground. Even before S. Malcolm went off with a dislocated shoulder, just before Oxford scored, the team failed to produce its best, though at the finish it made a desperate effort to save the game. The forwards, perhaps, would have been well advised not to heel so often, as when they chose to use their feet they always looked dangerous. _ The only try scored was obtained a quarter of an hour before the end by Marshall, Oxford's right wing. Oxford put up a surprisingly good fight. Its tackling was excellent.
