THIEVES IN POST OFFICE.
ATTEMPTED ROBBERY AT SYDENHAM. The Sydenham Post Office was entered by thieves on Thursday night. A thorough search of the building was evidently carried out and an attempt made to break into the strong room, but nothing of value has been stolen. Entrv was made through a window at the" rear of the Post Office, wiiich was prised open after an unsuccessful attempt had been made to force the back door. All the cash, stamps, postal notes, and other articles of value had been locked awav in the strong room when the staff left the budding at o p.m. A brick wall of the strong room showed where an ineffectual effort had been made to break through, but evidently the thieves had soon abandoned the idea. , . Thev contented themselves with searching drawers and pigeon-holes and removing a few letters from the rack where correspondence addressed to the care of the post office is kept. The small automatic telephone exchange for the Cashmere district also showed signs of having been tampered with. The police are making enquiries.
