Charles McKinnon. fifty, a clerk m the employ of the Mangonui County Council, came before Mr Justice Herdman for sentence to-day on a charge of furnishing a false receipt. The-e had been other charges of theft ana furnishing false receipts, but these were not proceeded'with. His Honour said there was no _ doubt that the accused had taken on his own shoulders the wrong-doing of another man. It also appeared that he was endeavouring to repay the money which had been stolen, and that he himself had not profited as a result of the defalcations. His Honour was quite sure that McKinnon had not received any of the moneys which were the subject of the charges. • McKinnon was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon, and to repay the amount owing, approximately £il
