NEGLECTED STREETS.
TO TH» SDITOB Of TBS FUSS. Sir, —When I visited Christchurch four years ago I was surprised to notice the disgraceful state of certain streets in the City, especially those round Idris road. The ditches were overgrown with grass, and were so full'of filth that I thought either the Health authorities or the Council would soon remedy such a deplorable state of affairs, but now these streets are just as bad as they were then. I have come from a North Island city, where such drains would not be tolerated, and I am sure that any of our North Island towns could give the Christchurch City Council' some much needed advice on drainage and sanitation. I sincerely hope this neglected area does not have a fever epidemic this summer.—Yours, etc, M. D. DALZIELL.
