MARRIAGE OF GERMAN PRINCESS.
♦ ROMANCE EXCITES INTEREST. (BT CABLB— NU3S ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) V ALSTRALIAN A.VD N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received October 27th, 7.50 p.m.) BERLIN. October 26. The marriage next month of Alexander Zoubkoff, the 27-y.ear-old Russian, and the 61-year-old Princess Victoria, the ex-Kaiser's sister,' is exciting interest throughout Europe. A Berlin evening paper publishes the life story of Zoubkoff, in which it tells how he knocked about Europe working as a commercial traveller. Then he spent two years in a cooks' galley at sea, shivering in waiting rooms, sheltering in Salvation Army quarters, and finally was employed washing up in a Berlin restaurant"at three shillings a day. He met the Princess through a distant relative, to whom he went to borrow money to go abroad. It is said an instant friendship sprang up, and a fortnight ago the couple became engaged. Thev are convinced that their marriage will prove of the happiest. "There is perfect understanding between us," says Zoubkoff, who is frequently handsomely supplied with money from the Princess in order to tit him for his new station in life. [The ex-Kaiser's sister, Princess Victoria Schaumburg-Lippe, a widow, aged 61. reputedly eccentric and wealthy, recently contracted a ballroom friendship with Zoubkoff. It was announced shortly afterwards that Zoubkoff was affianced to the Princess. The ex-Kaiser has consented to the marriage.]
