SCARLET FEVER.
A SEVERE TYPE. It will be noticed there lias been rather an increase in the number of notifications of scarlet fever, and tuberculosis—the figures for August being 20 and 18 respectively, staled the report of the Public Health Committee presented- to the Hospital Board yesterday. The medical officer of tho Infectious Diseases' Hospital calls attention to the increase in scarlet fever cases, and mentions that they are of a more severe type than has occurred for some time. The following is a list of notifications of infectious diseases during the month of September, received from the Department of Health: Scarlet fever 31, diphtheria 4, tuberculosis 28, pneumonia 8, lethargic encephalitis 3, pneumonicinfluenza 7, hydatids 1, food poisoning 1; total 83. The number of cases dealt with in the Infectious Diseases' Hospital during the month of September, was 88, comprising:—Scarlet fever 51; diphtheria 14; measles 16; influenza 1; otitis media 1; sundries o. The report was adopted.
