FARMERS' UNION.

NORTH CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE. The North _ Canterbury Executive of the Farmers' Union met yesterday. Present: Messrs J. D. Hall (chairman), R. G. Bishop, A. M. Carpenter, E. A. Foster,' G. H. Hassall, D. J, Hawke, B. T. Macmillan, A. 6. Parish, 'it. S. Roper, T. Morton, ,W. W. Mulbolland, and Colin Mcintosh. Referring to tariff matters, the chairman said' that Ho did not know whether the tariff brought down would make any tion in the prices of imported implements.As to whether the local output would increase would depend on' the capacity of - tht farmers to buy, and he did not think that that capacity was very strong. They hoped that expectations would be realised and that an increased output would result In reduced prices. Visit to Southland. .. The Southland Executive wrote regarding a visit of Canterbury farmers to. Southland, suggesting show time (December 13th and 14th) #)»r some time in February or March. . It was decided to reply that the December dates were unsuitable, and to ask for information- as to' what there was to see about theend of March. Mr Amery's Visit. The "Progress League asked the executive to appoint a delegate to the meeting to consider arrangements for the visit of Mr Amery. , Mr B. J. Macmillan was appointed to represent the executive. \ Horse-breeding. The Northern and Courtenay A. and P. Associations wrote supporting 1 the proposal to hold a conference regarding horse-breeding. The Ellesmere A; and P. Association also approved, and suggested that an alteration be made in the presentation of the statistics, showing separately draughts, light horses, and ponies. It was decided to take the necessary steps to arrange the conference at a date as early as-possible. Feeding the Railways. Mr F. Pawson, railway business agent, wrote that the executive's representations regarding exemption from license fees of a certain steam hauler which is feeding the railways, had been placed before tho commercial manager, and it was regretted that the Department did not possess power to grant exemption. It was decided to approach the licensing authority on the subject.
