SEAMEN'S UNION.

GENERAL AUSTRALIAN HOLD-UP SUGGESTED. (BT CABLB— PRISS ASSOCIATION—COPTRIOHT). (AUSTRALIAN AND N.S. CABLB ASSOCIATION.) (Received October 25th, 11.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 25. A stop-work meeting of the Seamen's Union was held to discuss two motions, one by Mr T. Walsh, general president, and one by Mr J. Johnson, general secretary of the Union. Mr Walsh's motion is that either registration be continued in the Federal Arbitration Court or that there be a general hold-up of all coastal and interState shipping under Australian articles after November Ist. Mr Johnson's motion asks that the present agreement be adhered to, and that the seamen remain at work but refuse to give any guarantee that they will not exercise their right to job control to the fullest extent. Similar meetings have, been held in all the capital cities of the Commonwealth, although no official intimation ha 8 been received as to how they resulted. Lack of funds, 'will probably prevent the men from striking. • All the meetings were convened by the Federal Executive of the Union.
