TAXI-DRIVER'S LICENSE CANCELLED. A taxi-driver charged with driving a car while in a state of intosicatiion was fined £2O when convicted by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., yesterday. His driving license was cancelled until April Ist, 1929. . Senior-Sergeant Fitzpatrick said that the man, Frederick William John Garlick, had driven fares to the Rangiora races and when he returned to the City had collided with another motor-car. He was then proceeding up St. Albans street on the wrong side of the road, and was not in a fit state to'drive a car. When taken to the police station he was medically examined and the doctor said he was not in a condition to drive. p Mr Batchelor, for the accused, submitted that the weather was some excuse, for the man having had three whiskies during the day. He had not been on the wrong side of the road but had swerved over to avoid a collision "The Magistrate, in imposing the penalty, said that faxi-drivers had a duty to their fares, and he could not allow'the man to continue driving.
