ABATTOIR CHARGES.
BUTCHERS SEEK REDUCTION; Lower fees for the slaughter of stock at the City abattoir are being sought by the master butchers. At the City Council meeting last evening the Abattoir Committee reported:— "The Canterbury Master Butchers' Industrial Union of Employers has written enclosing copy of a report submitted by a sub-committee to the last monthly general meeting of the Association, and stating that, from evidence contained therein, the opinion was expressed that some reduction can be made in the killing, charges; and therefore asking fhat the Abattoir Committee adopt new fees as from the first April Ist, 1927. • "As a similar claim from the Meat Export Companies is already receiving the consideration of the Minister for Agriculture, the result of which may affect the profits at the abattoir for the past two years, the. committee has replied stating that the request of the Butchers' Union will receive consideration on receipt of a decision from the Minister.'* The clause was adopted.
