''This young man ought to be severely dealt with this time," said SeniorSergeant McCarthy, referring to Frank Charles Ashman (23), who appeared before Mr P. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court for being found drunk and procuring liquor while prohibited "This Is the same man who attempted_ to throw himself over the Grafton bridge a few weeks ago and was snatched from the parapet of the bridge by two nurses," added the Senior-Ser-geant. "He asked to be prohibited, and this is the wav he conducts himself." Ashman said that he was leaving for Sydney by next Friday's steamer. He had been" to a farewell party given in his honour and had got too much liquor.
• <; Have you got your boat fare?" asked the Magistrate. "Not yet," replied accused. "I have Rot a job to finish and will have my fare by Thursday." Ashman was fined £5, or seven days in gaol, and was ordered to be placed on board the Maheno when that vessel -sails.
