WAR IN CHINA.
* ADVANCE ON HANKOW. (BT cable—press association—copyright.) (AUSTRALIAN A.VD K.Z CABLE ASSOCIATION.) SHANGHAI. October 23. The Yangtse war situation is increasing in gravity. The Nanking armies are advancing on Hankow by land and water. ' Major hostilities are expected momentarily, involving far-reaching results to tbe Nationalist movement. BRITISH NAVAL FORCES INTERVENE. (AUSTRALIAN AND X.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION - . (Received October 35th, 1 a.m.) SHANGHAI, October 24. Sixty thousand of the Nanking forces are advancing on Hankow by land and water for the purpose of subjugating the city, which is reported, to have reverted to the North. River boats, both Chinese and foreign-owned, have been commandeered and British naval forces have been compelled to intervene and fire when foreign "steamers were hred on from the embankments.
