NORTH CANTERBURY.
RANGIORA. The weather was so unpleasant at Eangiora yesterday that many peoplo preferred to stay at home. All sports were abandoned, and many picnics to the seaside and other pleasure resorts were cancelled. The races were held, but the attendance suffered as a result of the conditions. The afternoon was very cold, and several showers of rain, hail, and sleet fell. It is a long time since so much snow has been so low down on the hills. Mount Grey is covered almost to the base, and presents a very fine sight.
| KAIAPOI. 1 The eighth annual reunion of scholars of the old Church of England Day School. Kaiapoi, 1862-187-1, and their descendants was held in the Drill Hall yesterday, as the weather was unsuitable for holding it in tho park as was originally intended. In spite of wintrv conditions a good muster of old pupils attended from all parts, several being present from the North Island. Mr A. Pearee, president of the committee., who welcomed the. visitors, said he was pleased to see so many present; it showed that the interest in tho old school was still keen. He read several apologies, and expressed regret that there had been one or two deaths since their last gathering. Messrs K. Mcintosh (Kaiapoi) and J. Anderson (Methven) also addressed those present. Luncheon was served, after which tho old! scholars spent a happy time renewing old friendships and recounting past experiences. Games, bowling, and stepping competitions were held. A baby show was won by Mrs E. Bristow a baby girl. Afternoon tea was partaken of, and the prizes won were presented. A well-attended church parade of old scholars was held in fct. Bartholomew's Church, Kaiapcu, on Simda- evening, when tho service was conduc. 1 liv Mr A- Gordon.
AKAROA. Tho annual meeting of'the Akaroa Regatta Club was held, on Saturday cveuin". The commodore, Mr G. Arm. strong, presided over a fair, attendance of members. Tho report stated that a very successful regatta had been held last season. The balance-sheet, ahowin K a credit of £3O lis 9d, was adopt6Cit was docided to hold the regatta on January 2nd, 1028. It ..was decided to have only one sailing race, the prize money being fixedat £9 first and £3 second. An honorarium of. £5 as was voted to the secretary.
A well Attended meeting of Akaroa farmers was held,on Saturday night.for the purpose of discussing the nomination of candidates lor the coining R"bbit Board election. Mr T. Masefield was voted to the chair. It was decided to further the candidature of Messrs J. E. Thaoker, V, Craw, A. M. Helps, W. EL Moore, and T. Masofield. A gfft shop was hold on the Metropole Hotel verandah on Saturday by the members of the St. Patrick's Church. There was a largo selection of produce of all descriptions. Those responsible" for the success of the stall were Mrs J. Findlay, Misses A. M. Brocherie, L. Kearney, and E. M. Lelievre. A number of guessing competitions were held during the day. The winners were: Dinner, Mr W. Adcock;: chocolates, Huia Narbey; iced cake, Mr F. Broeheric; cup and saucer, Mi* J. G. Lelievre; ham, Miss C. Narbey. A dance was held in the Oddfellows' Hall in the evening, and was well attended. The music was supplied by Mr A. Cullen and Miss K. Cullen, Misses L. and Iris Kearney, M. Walker, and E. M. Leliovre. * As a result of the effort, the church fund will benefit to the extent of over £25. I
Mr H. Woodill, who met witli a bad accident about six weeks ago by being thrown from a sledge, has sufficiently recovered to be able to leave his house. There was n largo number of visitors to the town during the week-end, but early on Sunday morning heavy vain commenced to fall, which continued until about, noon. There was a light fall of snow which lay 'on the hills all day for about a mil© down the hillsides.
