FAMOUS WRITER.
MEMORIAL TO CONRAD. S (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIBSLBSS.) RUGBY, October 21. A memorial panel in the porch of the Village Hall at Bishopborne, near Canterbury, where he died three years ago, has been erected by friends and admirers throughout the world as a tribute to the late Joseph Conrad. It was unveiled yesterday by the well-known writer, Mr Robert Cunninghanie Graham, who said he had known Conrad throughout his career, from the days when he was xinknown and poor, until he became a celebrated and successful novelist, with world-wide fame. During that time he acquired style in English, nervous and energetic, and yet with something of the Slavonic charm added to Saxon strength and virility. The Polish Minister, M. Skirmunt, who attended the ceremony, said thai Conrad had never ceased to be a Polo, or divested himself of his Polish traditions.
