Mrs Kelloek arrived froqi England by the Ruapehu, and is visiting her son ■near Hawarden. Mrs Kelloek is a sister of the late Mr'J. C. N. Grigg, of Longhcach. Mr and Mrs Endell Wanklyn and their children, who have been spending a few weeks at Sumner, Have returned to their home in Merivale. Mrs H. S. Lawrence (Garden road), who has been spending a week at Hcretaunga, has gone to Gisborne to visit |ter sister, Mrs Wrey Nolan. Mtb Lancelot Lane (Merivale) has returned from a few weeks' visit to Sumner. Mr and Mrs«lan Murchison, who have been visiting Christchurch, have returned to Lake Coleridge. Mrs Nixon (Fendalton) is visiting relatives in Kaikoura. Miss . Meta Nixon is spending a few days with Mrs Hugh Ensor, "Rakahuri." The proceeds of the sale of cakes, conducted in the vestibule of the Grand Theatre on Saturday in aid of the Lewisham Sisters' Best House amounted to £42 6s Bd. •
The Canterbury Jockey Club's annual ball—a social event always anticipated with pleasure —will be held in the Caledonian Hall on the Tuesday of Cup Week.
The All Sports Assembly held their usual dance at the Albert Hall on Saturday nrght. There was a very large attendance. On Friday evening, at the D.I.C. tearooms, a party was given by the girls of the staff of Mr C. S. Thorns in honour of Miss Marjory Keaby, whose marriage takes place shortly. Those present were: Misses M. Reaby, B. Straehan, G. Reade, M. Riordan, B- Holley, R. Baird, M. Irving', M. Cotton, P. Gibson, G. Russell, and E. James. The funeral of the late Mrs W. McCoy took place at the Bromley Cemetery on Friday afternoon. The chief mourners were:—Mr. W.. McCoy, Mr W H. Turner; Waikari (father), and Mr P. A. Turner, Lowcliffe (brother). The Citv Council was represented by the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), and the employees of the Council by Mr a. Macintosh. Members of the Returned Soldiers' Association were the pallbearers.
