JUVENILE CHOIR.

CONCERT IN COLLEGE HALL. In the Canterbnry College Hall on Saturday evening the Christchurch*~ Juvenile Choir, under the baton of Mrs W, Machin, gave a concert programme of part-songs and other numbers. An excellent tone and balance was maintained, and in. every number the harmony was sound. During an interval Miss E. A. Chaplin, hon. secretary and treasurer, explained to a large audience, the ob* jects Of the Choir, stating that it bad sixty members. The takings, said Miss Chaplin, will be itt aid of the Children's Library. The speaker referred to the work done for the Choir by Mrs Machin, the hon. conductor; Mrs Bryant, and Miss B. Dixon, the hon. accorapanistes, and Mrs Taylor, who supervised the costuming, etc. The programme was as follows:—"Crea-. lion's Hymn" (Beethoven), by the Choir: "The Vesper Hymn" (Boethoven), a trio and

chorus, Misses E. Ford, B. Dixon, and K. Bryant; two songs from "Ten Little Verses for Children" (Edith Harrhy), by the Choir; "O, Lovely Peace," duet from "Judas Maccabaeus" (Handel), by the Choir; "Huntsman, Rett!" by the Choir; "The Bells of Aberdovy," a Welsh air, by the Choir; "0 Dear, What Can the Mattter Bel" by the Choir, arranged with descant; "One Man Went to Mow," an old melody, arranged by H. A. Chambers, by the Choir; solo, "Like To the Damask Rose" (Elgar), Miss Edith Ford; folk song. "The Merry Haymakers;" by the Choir: "In Winter" (E. Nevin); pianoforte duet, "Rhapsodie Mignonne" (Carl Koelling). Misses Dulcie and Lola Taylor; violin solo, Miss Trixie Banks. The second portion of the programme was occupied by the presentation of the children's cantata, "Tho Rose of Joy." The principals were as follows: —Queen, B. Dixon; attendants on the Queen, E. Dann. N. Ainsworth, Joan Rutherford, and Audrey JJleholls; Abracadabra Sparks, A. Wright; jesters, R. and A. Leathwick. All the parts in the cantata wero most capably taken, and the dance, arranged by Miss B. Lance, and tho dressc*. arranged by Mesdamca Taylor. Bank!, and Baker, were strikingly effective.
