PACIFIC FLIGHT.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE DECLINED. (BT CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND H.Z CABLE ASSOCIATION.) SYDNEY, October 21. For sftne time past an agitation has been afoot to prevent Captain Kingsford Smith and his companions attempting the Pacific flight and at the" first meeting of Mr Bavin's Cabinet a request for further financial assistance was declined in view of the risk attending the flight. Mr Bavin said that on the reports made to him regarding this matter he was. satisfied that the flight on the present lines could not be proceeded with.

Captain' Kingsford Smith plans to leave the United States for Sydney on November 3rd, weather permitting, regardless of Mr Bavin's recommendations' to him to abandon the attempt. The newspaper "Call" announces that Captain Smith is reported as stating that all the financial assistance the Premier had agreed to had been furnished. • -"' ' , Captain Smith regards Mr Bavin's opposition as a gesture for the safety, of the crew. ' v GILES'S 'PLANE. (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) SAN FRANCISCO, October 20. Captain Giles's 'plane, which was wrecked near Elko, Nevada, is being shipped here for repairs arid many be ready for the trans-Pacific flight in two or three weeks. Captain Giles arrived here in a Boeing mail 'plane.
