ASHLEY RIVER TRUST.
MONTHLY MEETING. The \shUv River' Trust Commissioners met at Rangiora yesterday. In the absence of the chairman, Mr W. Stalker presided. Other Commissioners present were: Messrs T. Wyllie, 0 S. Ayers. H. 9. Philpott, L. J. Stokes, and T. Dawson. The chairman reported that the lopping o£ the willows on the north bank of the Ashley river had been completed at a cost of approximately £lB. He also stated that at the request of the Trust he had interviewed the chairman of the Kowai County Council in reference to the Trust's exemption/ from payment of rates on the land occupied by the stop-bank on the north side of the river, and the request for exemption would probably be given effect to. ■ , • The Ashlev County Council wrote asking that steps be" taken to protect the north bank of the rivor above tho traffic bridge. It was decided to reply that tho Trust did not consider that the bank was in any particular danger at the present time. In replv to a letter -from the Kowai County Council stating that the Council would take care not to endanger the Trust's property through the removal of shingle from the Council's reserve on Broad road, it was decided to inform tho Council that it would bo held responsible should any damage result from shingle being washed into the outfall drains. The clerk, Rangiora County Council, advised that the Council intended suing for outstanding rates. Horrell's garage wroto asking permission to erect a sign-board on tho northern approach to the Ashley traffic bridge. It was decided to adviso the applicants to : apply to the Ashley County Council. A letter from Mr C. H. Downing in reference to Kowai County rates was received. A letter from eight tenants of tho Education Reserve at Scfton stating that the Trust's rates should be paid by the Land Board was referred to the Kowai County Council.
Mr James Barclay wrote advising that the ■work of cleaning tho crock running through his property was now in hand. The letter was received. The tender of Mr P. J. Pulley for the lease of the reserve adjoining Mr A. C. Pulley's property at ±'l2 10s per annum was accepted, provided that the reserve had not been already let by the committee appointed to attend to tho matter. The Hon. Sir Bnddo, M.P., wrote enclosing letters from the Minister for Public Works stating that the matters of representation on the trust, the exclusion of the D clsss land from the Trust district, and the provision of a sum of ±'soo on account of a Government grant of £7OOO on this year's estimates, were receiving attontion. Mr Buddo also forwarded a letter from tho Minister for Lands stating that certain lands were being vested in tho Trust as reserves. * It was decided to writs thanking Messrs Buddo and Forbes for their assistance in these matters. Mr F. Langbein wrote forwarding copies of the proposed amendments to the Ashley River Trust Act, which were approved. Mr F. C. Hay's account for £32 lis, and other accounts amounting to'£23 9s 6d, were passed for oarment.
