HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The membership of the Canterbury Horticultural Society is steadily increasing. At last night's meeting of the committee thirtyfive new members were elected, mating a total of over sixty since the beginning of the rear. Arrangements were made for an exhibition and- lecture on rhododendrons and azaleas by Mr E. F. Stead, also for members of *;he Society to visit Ham on Saturdav. October 29th, to seo the plants in bloom. It was decided to send a letter to Dr. Chilton, hon. botanist, who is leaving the district. Judges were appointed for the rose show. The committee is arranging to take over a large room in the Citv so teat exhibitions of seasonable plants and HoweTS may be held at intervals during the year.
