THEATRE ROYAL.
J. C. WILLIAMSON, LTD., CO. ■"RUDDIGORE." The news that the J. 0. Williamson comic opera company open at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday, November Ist, in Gilbert and Sullivan'B delightful musical fantasy, "Ruddigore" will, no doubt, bo welcomed by many. Time does not detract from the value of the fantasy. "Kuddigorc" is the least known of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, but it contains most beautiful music and the wittiest of dialogue. It is a burlesque ou the gloomy, gruesome, melodrama of tho ISBO period. It deals with the fortunes (and misfortunes) of tho ancient family of Ruddigoro; how the inheritor of tho title fails to maintain the traditions of the house of committing ono crime per day; and how his ancestors come to life and wreak vengeance ou the recreant knight. A charming; love story runs through tho opera, and there are many delightful solos and inspiring choruses—Sullivan's music remains as fresh and as fascinating to-day as when it was composed. The company is a strong ono, and includes James Hay (leading tenor and producer), Charles Wnlenn, John Ralston, Bernard Manning, Stella Wilson (leading soprano), Pattio Russoll, Winifred Williamson, and other well-known performers. "Ruddigoro" will only bo staged for throe nightß (matineo on Wednesday), and will bo followed in quick succession by other Gilbert and Sullivan favourites. The bos plans for the season will open at The Bristol on Friday.
