CHANNEL SWIM.

MISS GLEITZE'S START DELAYED (by cable— press association—copyright.) (australian *nd k.z. cablx associatioir.) LONDON, October 19. Miss Gleitze did not start in her Channel swim owing to adverse winds. Many officials, newspaper men, photographers, and two doctors were waiting to accompany her, and her effort is likely to be one of the most crowded and spectacular Channel swims. Another outcome of the Logan hoax is that supporters of Mrs Gill, who swam the Channel on- October 14th, havo. issued-open challenges to all longdistance swimmers of either sex, for a Channel race, the winner to be the first to land in the event of the full distance being covered, or, if impossible, the one nearest England.
