SUPREME COURT BENCH.
NEW APPOINTMENTS ? [THE PRESS Specitl Service.) WELLINGTON, October 20. At the end of the year the Supreme Court Bench will be three Judges short, and concern is expressed in legal circles at the fact that Mr Justice Alpors is now on sick leave, Mr Justice Herdman is to sail from the Dominion on a twelve months' tour abroad, and Mr Justice Stringer retires 1 at the end of this month, having .completed the term of service after which retirement is compulsory. While an appointment may be made by the Attorney-General to fill Mr Justice Stringer's place, there is a statutory limitation upon the number of Judges, and the Bench will still lack the services of two of its members. This is a matter which is to be considered by the New Zealand Law Society, for, while the volume of legislation has fallen during the past twelve months, it is recognised that legal work may increase again at any time. Meanwhile, it is stated, the intention of the Attorney-General is to appoint Mr Justice Stringer to continue on the Bench as an acting-Judge.
