The following resolution was carried at a special meeting of the Hawke's * Bay Rugby Union: "Pending a final de- * cision in regard to the protest between VVairarapa and Hawke's Bay for tho • Ranfurly Shield, this union notifies the Taranaki, Manawhenua and Canterbury l Rugby Unions that in the event of 1 Hawke's Bay being defeated in any of I these games, and the result of the protest being in our favour, tho shield will be forwarded to the New Zealand 1 Rugby Union with a request that it bo hande'd over to the first successful chal- i lenger. Association wrote stating that the Show Grounds would < be used by the Christchurch Amateur ( C\ cling Club for the finish of tho AshburtonChristciiurch road race on Saturday, September 3rd. „ . Tlie Union was prepared to send \ a B representative team to Christchurch . on September 10th, when it could meet a ■ similar team from Canterbury. ' The matter was referred to tho Vacant ; Dates Committee. Tho secretary of tho Hawke's Bay Union wrote as follows with referenco to the chal- '_ lenge of Canterbury for its match against ; Hawke's Bay to be a Shield game:— "I have to advise you that owing to tht> Shield being concerned in matchss prior to that date (September 3rd) my Union have deterred consideration of tha challenge until tho previous matches have been disposed of." The letter was received. A letter from the United Club, Greymouth, stated that its fourth grade team was coming to -Christchurch to play matches on August 19th and 20th. It was decided to play Merivale on August 20th, and the club asked that the committee would communicate with the Merivale Club in the matter. It was decided to get in touch with the Merivale Club as requested. A letter was received from the secretary of the Public Service team stating that a match with Sunnyside bad been arranged to take place on Lancaster Park on' August l slh - , • a • • Mr J. E. Hampton, referee in the junior match between Kaiapoi and Merivale, played recently, wrote complaining that he had been unfairly treated by the committee in the matter. It was decided to receive the letter. The New Zealand Union wrote stating that it had passed the following resolution: "That this Union has no objection to representative teams being .assembled two clear days prior to a representative match." It was decided to reply to an application N for permission for civilians to travel with the Canterbury representative team on its northern tour that no official party would be taken. The secretary of the Taranaki Union wrote stating that its representative teani would arrive in Christchurch on August 18th and leave for the south after breakfasting at the railway station. It would arrive in Chrietclmrch from Invercargill on August 26th, play Canterbury on the 27th, and leave on the 29th for Wellington by the ferry steamer. It was decided to make the necessary arrangements. It was decided to allow tho selector to put on a trial game on August 13th. If desired, prioi to the Payne trophy match. The Competitions Committee reported that the Senior A competition had been completed, Christchurch being the winners. There were two more games to be played in order to complete the competition. In the second grade, four more matches were necessary to complete the second round. In the third' grade A and B competitions, it was decided to bring tho leading teams together during the next three Saturdays. In the under 20 grade, one more game was needed to complete the second round. In the under ! 19 and under 18 grades, the.leading teams would be brought together. The first round of the under 17 competition had been completed, and the second round had been redrawn to bring the six leading teams together. Four more matches were to be played to complete the second round of the under 15J grade. The first round of the > Bst 71b schoolboys' competition had been ■ completed, and the competition would end on August 13th, while two more games were necessary to complete the first round of the ; 7st 7lb grade. 1 Saturday's Games. In the annual match between old boys o£ Waitaki Boys' High School and of Timaru Boys' High School resident in Ohristchurch, played at Hagley Park yesterday, Timaru were victorious by eighteen points to six. Mathieson, Ellis, Simmers, and Vaughan scored for the winners, while March. Ellis, and Wilson converted one each. England scored for Waitaki and Scrimshaw kicked a penalty goal. Mr J. ». Hampton refereed.
