BOOTMAKER FINED. [THE PEESS Special Bervice.] WELLINGTON, January 21. ''The soles. of these boots consist of a thin layer of leather and then cardboard, and as soon as they get wet they fall to pieces. There is nothing to prevent his making such shoddy so long as he stamps them 'leather and cardboard,' " said the Inspector of Awards (Mr R. T. Bailey).in the Magistrate's Court to-day r when W. Corrona, boot manufacturer, of Adelaide road, admitted exposing v unstamped footwear for sale. Corrona's explanation was that he was not aware that it was necessary for him to stamp the goods. Mr Bailey said that the defendant, who had been conducting the business since the death of his father, had been informed to the requirements of the Act on August 24th. 1926. Mr E. Page, S.M., imposed a fine of £lO, the maximum penalty.
