WAIMATE SWIMMING SPORTS.
The Arno Swimming Club were favoured with perfect weather for their carnival yesterday, which was held in a beautiful stretch of water in the Waihao river, at McCulloch's bridge, about Bis miles from Waimate. The banks of the river, which are lined with weeping willow trees, giving plenty of shade from the hot rays of the sun, wore crowded with spectators. A special train, which left Wa:mato at 1.80 p.m., conveyed a large number of interested spectators and picnickers to this delightful spot, and many made their way there per medium of the motor-car and luolor-buscs. A proper gala was mado of the function, and there were numerous side-showa doing business, which Bhould greatly augment the funds, which are for the purpose of effecting necessary improvements to this ideal picnic spot.
