CABLE-LAYING MACHINE.
(PEIS3 ASSOCUTIOH TXLtOEAU.) DUNEDIN, January 20. The Post aoid Telegraph Department used yesterday a Kirby cable-laying machine for putting down telephone wires near Mosgiel. The inventor is Mr Joseph G. Kirby, of Wyndham. A rudder-shaped sock, with a steel shoe atached to the chassis, cuts the Wound to a depth of 26 inches, leaving a scar only a few inches wide, and laving the cable at the same time.
