CARINTHIA'S CRUISE.
"MILFORD MOST IMPRESSIVE." The Cunard liner Carinthia, with the American tourists on board, paid a visit to Milford Sound, but did not call at either Bligh or George Sounds. The vessel had an experienced coastal pilot on board, but the weather conditions rendered it inadvisable to enter more than the one Sound. The passengers, however, were delighted with Milford, and one has written to the Hon. Mr Anderson, Minister in Charge of the Publicity Department, expressing appreciation of the visit. . . In the course of the letter, which is dated January 2nd, at sea, the writer said Milford was most impressive. "The Carinthia seemed to fill the waterway, and the towering peaks caused many exclamations of admiration and delight. The people on a launch which was coming down the Sound appeared to get a surprise. They turned about and made for a bay out of the way. The liner's whistle boomed, and the echoes played baok and forth for several minutes, finally growing fainter up the Sound. The opinion was general that the Sound compared favourably with those of Alaska and Norway, but was bolder in outline, and approached by a more dramatic entrance. It was too -oindy to enter Georce or Blieh Sounds. Everyone was delighted that they had seen Milford and amazed that it was visited so seldom."
