Stewart- 18 heat Haydcn (Takanunn) 12; Benefield 21 heat Walker (Auckland) 13; Laurenson (Carlton) 25 boat Mcßobie (Remuera) 10; Fiikingtoa (.Hamilton) a bye. FIFTH ROUND. Pilkington 23 beat Haydcn 13; Stewart lb heat Laurenson 13; Benefield a bye. SEMI-FINALS. Benefield 22 beat Pilkington 6; Stewart a bye. Owing to Stewart having two "lives, Benefield will have to beat him twice to win the championship. PAIRS CONTEST. In tho paii-3 championship, the last tour green winners to go forward for post-section play were found as follows :-- Section B, Walker (Auckland); 6cction L, Harraway (Green Island); section N, Armstrong (Pukekohc); section R, Pilkington (Hamilton). Post-section p!ay in tho pairs resulted: SECOND ROUND. 801 l (Hamilton) 17 beat Torrance (PonBonby) 16, Livingstone (Onehunga) 29 beat J. D. Smith (Dunedin) 24, Harraway (Dunedin) 21 beat Armstrong (Pukekohc 12, Walker (Auckland) 29 beat Chapman (Rockv Nook) 10. THIRD ROUND. Proctor 22 beat Atkinson 20, Harraway 2o heat Livingstone 9, Bell 17 beat Hutchison 14. Tho following are now left in tho pairs:— Bell (Hamilton), Walker (Auckland), Harraway (Green Island), Pilkington (Hamilton), Proctor (Remuera), Bonefield (St. John's). SINGLES GAMES. The only match in the singles championship was when Clarko (Rocky Nook) 22 boat Maher (West End) 9. Besides Clarko tho following arc still left in: ilclntyro (Hamilton), Bell, jun. (Hamilton), Walker (Auckland), Smellio (Green Island). Mclntyrc ia the only two-lifer. The programme for to-morrow is that Benefield will play Pilkington in tho second round of tho pairs competition in the morning and will play Stewart in tho rinks final in the afternoon. , NOTES ON THE PLAY. Some fine games were witnessed in the rinks intersection play to-day. The contest between Benefield (St. John's, 'Wanganui) and Walker (Auckland) provided an exciting finish. The Wanganui players started at top of form, and led at the sixteenth head by 16 to 7. In tho concluding stages Walker made a great effort to draw into the winning position, the scores at the commencement of the last head being: Benefield 20, Walker 19. The M'nnganui team outdrow Auckland at tho finish, Walker failing with drives to avert defeat. Stewart defeated Hayden (Takapuna) in a game in which the Dunedin team always held the upper hand. At the conclusion of the twelfth head Stewart was 14 to Hayden's (i. Hayden strove hard to reduce the lead, but could only score occasional singles, the Dunedin men's drawing for position being excellent. A. number of heads were burned by Hayden toward tho finish, but Dunedin kept on their game, eventually -winning by 18 to 12. The Carlton team, . skipped by Laurenson, registered a decisive win against Mcßobie (Remuera). Tho game was keenly contested up to the twelllh head, \»hcn Carlton, with ten points, had a lead of one. In the next head Laurenson notched four, and repealed the performance in tho fifteenth, the scores then being 18 to 10 in Carlton's favour. Carlton then went on to score a three, a one, and a two in successive heads, winning by 24 to 11. ~ In the following round Stewart met Laurenson, Pilkington played- Hayden, Benefield getting a bye. Stewart's team played very steadily from tho opening head,' and alwavs had a shade the better of tho draw shots. At the conclusion of tho twelfth head tho scores were: Stewart 10, Laurenson 8. The Dunedin team improved its position to 12—8 in the fourteenth. Laureneon scored three- in the- seventeenth head, bringing Carlton's score to 13 against puncdin's 16. The next head was burned by Carlton, and tho time limit was exhausted, Stewart winning 16 to 13. Pilkington had an easy victory over Hayden. The Hamilton team soon got a substantial lead, tho scores atr the eleventh head being 11 to 5 in Pflkington's favour. Pilkington scored six in the next head, and at the fourteenth the | scores were 26 to 5 in Pilkingto.i's favour. The game concluded on the eighteenth head, Pilkington 28, Hayden 13. , Tho eetiii-final proved an easy v-.clory tor Benefisld's team,, which gave a great exhibition' of all-round play. The Hamilton team did not play badly, but lime and again Benefield treated the jack with great drives , or running shots, taking the hcoies from his opponents. At tho eleventh head, Benefield s scorn was 11 to Pilkington's 5. The latter added only one to his total when the eighteenth was reached, the scores thon being: Benefield 22, Pilkington G,- when tho latter relixed.
