An audacious bid for liberty by th«» two prisoner.", George Huia Brewer anil George Curtis Oolcord. who escaped from the Hamilton police cells in the early hours of Tuesday morning, was frustrated to-day when both men were rearrested in the vicinity of Henderson by Constable Smith, anil brought to Auckland. The escape from custody at Hamilton was nude between the hours of threo and rive o'clock, at which hour the* watchhouse-keoper discovered that two door-boards in the ceil had been prised up and a hole scooped under the wall large enough to allow the passage of a man.

Shortly after five o'clock, it was reported to the Hamilton police that a two-seater racing model Pord motor-car had been removed from n private garaga at Hamilton East, roliea stations throughout tho district were immediately communicated with, and u watch was kept on all roads. Nothing was seen of the fugitives all da.y, although it was thought they had headed for Auckland. This was con : firmed by reports from the Tifcirangi district. An increased vigilance was kept up after dark on all roads. Shortly before ten o'clock, Constable Smith, of Henderson, was driving toward Gkn Eden in a niotprcar, and when about n quarter of a mile from the Henderson police stqtipn, he was passed by two men jn a vehiele identical with that Btoleu, and travelling in the opposite direction.
