' * : SKIRTS CAN BE NO SHORTER. (BT CAB&E—PBEBS ABSOOUTiOIT—OOPTBIOHT.) (AUSTBALIAN AHD H.Z. CA3LE A8B0CIATI0H.) LONDON, January 17. "Women lave readied the limit as regards short skirts. They cannot decently show more leg, therefore it seems the only alternative is to clothe the legs in trousers. One thing- certain is that they will never return to long skirts," stated a leading West End dressmaker, supporting M. Paul Poiret's prediction that women thirty years hence -will be wearing trousers, and that skirts will be as obsolete as long hair to-day. f Baroness Destoeckl, the Court; dressmaker, says.that women are becoming more masculine daily. "See how they have adopted pyjamas," she says. On the other hand, Lady Poynter considers that skirts will last another century, when women might return to trailing draperies. Personally, she imagines trousers terribly draughty.
