ART SENSATION.
ORPEN DISCOVERS NEW SARGENT. (by cable—press association— copyright.) (Sydney "Sun" Service.) LONDON, January 17. The artist, Sir William Orpen, writing in the "Daily Mail," announces the discovery of a hitherto unknown Sargent, a portrait of a Spanish peasant woman, which he purchased from a Bond street dealer for a considerable sum. i
"The Mona Lisa is nothing compared with this masterpiece," he says. "It is Sargent's greatest. work, and was painted with the deepest feeling." Sir William considers that it was painted in Spain. Only a stupendous offer would induce him to part with his purchase.
