INFLUENZA.
SPREAD IN LONDON. WHOLE FAMILIES AFFECTED. (BT CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND S.Z. CABLE • ASSOCIATION.) (Received January ISth, 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, January 17. The influenza epidemic is spreading in many London suburbs and doctors are finding difficulty in coping with all cases. Fortunately the attacks in Britain are much milder than on the Continent, and have not caused anything like such a heavy deatli rate, but some features are similar to the 191S outbreak in Australia and New Zealand. Doctors are finding all members of somo households in bed and receiving instructions to obtain the key at another house and let themselves in. The present outbreak is attacking persons of all ages.
CASES IN ENGLAND. [THE PBESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, January IS. The Minister for Health (Hon. Mr Young) has received advice from the British Ministry of Health, through the High Commissioner, London, under date, January 14th, that the last week's figures for influenza showed a rise in the number of deaths in the United Kingdom for the 105 great towns. The deaths were 172 for the week ending January Bth, as against 86 for the week ending January Ist, and in London 72 as against 17. The number of pneumonic cases notified for the week which ended on January Bth was 2110 in England and Waies, and 348 in London.
