BURNING SACK.
ON FRONT DOOR STEP. [THE PEESS Special Service,} AUCKLAND. January 17. An attempt to sat fire to a house in Lake road, Takapuna, on January Ist, led to the arrest of Joseph Henry Trask, who to-day appeared in the Police Court charged with attempted arson. ' It was stated that a sack saturated with kcroaene was placed on the front door-step of the home of Samuel Victor Wright. A match was applied-but the flames were quelled before any material damage resulted. S. V. Wright, dairyman, said his house was attached to the Btauraki Dairy. _ Accused was in the employ of the dairy for about Ave weeks prior to January 2nd. Following a drinking bout before the holidays, accused neglected his work and was generally unsatisfactory. On January* Ist jritn^® 8 , B . ai . d kis wife ordered. Trask out of the living quarters. The family retired about B.SO, p.m - and were awakened some hours later. Upon going outside it was found that kerosene had been sprinkled on the porch, while a sack, which waa used as a mat, had been half-burned. The surrounding timber was marked by fire. Accused was committed for trial.
